Issue: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2002-2005 Lexus SC and Toyota Sequoia, 2003-2005 Toyota Corolla and Tundra, and 2003-2007 Pontiac Vibe vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, these inflators may explode due to propellant degradation.
Risk: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
Remedy: Toyota will notify the Toyota and Lexus owners. General Motors will notify the Pontiac Vibe owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator with an alternate inflator, or replace the air bag assembly that includes an alternate inflator, free of charge. The recall began January 23, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371, Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. Toyota's numbers for these recalls are J0A (Zone A Toyota), J0B (Zone B Toyota), J0C (Zone C Toyota), JLI (Zone A Lexus), JLJ (Zone B Lexus), and JLK (Zone C Lexus). Note: This recall includes vehicles that have had their air bag previously replaced under an earlier air bag campaign.

Issue: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2003-2008 Corolla, 2005-2008 Corolla Matrix, and Pontiac Vibe vehicles equipped with a front passenger air bag assembly replaced under a prior recall. The air bag may not unfold as designed during inflation under high temperature conditions, possibly resulting in the air bag not inflating properly.
Risk: An improperly inflated air bag increases the risk of injury during a crash.
Remedy: Toyota will notify their owners. Pontiac Vibe owners will be notified by GM. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag assembly or sub-assembly, free of charge. Toyota owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota's numbers for this recall are K1Q and K0Q. Pontiac owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-762-2737. Issue: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) notified the agency on May 13, 2015 that they are recalling certain model year 2004 Sequoia vehicles manufactured August 18, 2003, to August 19, 2004, and 2003-2004 Tundra vehicles manufactured March 18, 2003, to August 25, 2004. On June 16, 2015, Toyota expanded the recall to include an additional 1,270,468 vehicles, including model year 2002-2003 and 2005-2007 Sequoia, 2005-2006 Tundra, 2003-2007 Corolla, 2003-2007 Corolla Matrix, 2003-2007 Pontiac Vibe and 2002-2007 Lexus SC vehicles. This is to address a safety defect in the passenger side frontal air bag inflator which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal air bag.
Risk: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
Remedy: 2003-2004 Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles that are recalled under both 15V-043 and 15V-285 are under a Do Not Drive advisory. Owners of these vehicles are advised not to drive their vehicles until the recall remedy has been completed. Toyota will notify their owners. Pontiac Vibe owners will be notified by GM. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag. The recall began on July 13, 2015. Toyota owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Pontiac owners may call 1-800-762-2737. I have been attempting to complete the recall repair on my passenger airbag with my local A&T Chevrolet dealer in Sellersville, PA. Ive tried twice and each attempt was denied. The NHTSA website says to file a complaint or call their hotline if these repairs are denied.
My vehicle is part of the Takata Airbag Recall. I had a light come on for the airbag on the dash but the passenger light remains working condition prior to the fix. When I had the fix completed the light was cleared and reset but still comes on after driving for a few minutes. My concern is that the repair in a situation like this is incomplete. The whole safety system is in default if a light is illuminated on the dash. Meaning New or Not my system on a vehicle made to last 100,000s of thousands of miles and regarded as such when maintened should not be ignored when it can save lives and should work properly for the life of the vehicle. They replaced my passenger side airbag but refused to do a diagnostic or repair on the rest without paying for it. I feel at the very least free diagnostics should be included in the recall repairs for those who still retain a light and to be given the option to pay for the repair alone instead of diagnostic and repair. Just replacing one component of a highly required safety system without solving the issue is unacceptable. This is part of the largest safety recalls in history. The whole system should at least be offered a simple diagnose if not both diagnose and repair. This is on an older vehicle I will admit but 15 years of vehicles were effected. My issue is still unresolved 2007 Pontiac Vibe.
The contact stated their fiancé owned a 2007 Pontiac Vibe. The contact stated that while their fiancé was driving, MPH unknown, the vehicle was drifting, then suddenly veered towards the opposite lane going south, causing the vehicle to crash into two vehicles in that lane. The vehicle spun from the impact and ended up in the opposite lane, stopped. The front driver-side air bag deployed. The vehicle was towed and expected to be totaled. The other two vehicles involved in the crash were towed and had damage as well. The driver of the vehicle was injured at the location, following the incident, but received medical attention on the spot. At the hospital, the driver's injuries were fatal. The contact spoke with a certified mechanic who informed them that the Forward Collision Avoidance feature seemed to fail due to other safety features in the vehicle not activating and preventing the crash. The mechanic stated the safety feature seemed to take full control of the vehicle, not allowing the driver to safely operate the vehicle. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.
There were two incidents. 1. I was pulling into a parking spot at a Walmart driving very slowly, to almost reach the parking sign when the vehicle revved and lurched forward. I had to put my full pressure on the brake pedal, and eventually shifted to neutral and the revving subsided. I turned the car off and looked at the floor mat, which was in its usual position, and did not seem to be interfering with the pedal. Since this had not happened before, I rationalize that perhaps my foot had been on both the brake and accelerator. But I did not notice that my foot had slipped at all, and it was definitely on the brake when the revving occurred. 2. Today, my wife called me to tell me she had experienced the same revving while she was parking.

Manufacturer is unable to remedy NHSTA Recall # 15V 285, also known as GM Manufacturer Recall # N 140491. It was brought to the GM Dealership, T&T Coast 2205 Highway 35, Sea Girt NJ 08750 THREE times. The first time they could not properly install an airbag, claiming the airbag they were trying to install was defective. The 2nd time another new airbag was installed but the SRS/Airbag dashboard light went on and would not go off. The THIRD time the dealership ran a OBD scan (and charged me) only to say, yep Code B-1911 showed on the scanner --- this is an SRS AIRBAG failure. They refused to fix it. UPDATE 06/29/2023- Consumer mailed in copy of invoice showing the issue and no repair, case number with GM.

THE PART THAT WAS USED TO REPAIR THE TAKATA PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT FIT IN THE SPACE OF THE AIRBAG. THE COVER FOR THE AIRBAG ON THE DASH IS PUSHED UP AT LEAST 1/2 INCH ABOVE THE DASH ON THE WINDSHIELD SIDE OF THE AIRBAG COVER. I WAS NOTIFIED OF THIS AFTER THE TECHNICIAN INSTALLED THE REPLACEMENT PARTS AND WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THESE WERE THE PARTS THAT WERE SENT TO THEM TO REPLACE THE PROBLEM AIRBAG PARTS.
