My 2022 Genesis G70 has experienced repeated turbocharger and exhaust-system problems. In August and September 2025, the vehicle was serviced for exhaust/turbo-related gaskets and clamps and a misfire condition. It later developed knocking, sluggish acceleration, and additional turbo problems. The dealer replaced the turbo wastegate in February 2026, and additional turbocharger repairs were subsequently required. On July 28, 2026, an exhaust leak near the turbocharger was diagnosed. While operating the vehicle, I experienced headaches, dizziness, chest discomfort, and irritation of my eyes and nose. I was concerned that exhaust fumes could enter the passenger compartment and impair my ability to operate the vehicle safely. I sought medical care for a headache on July 29, 2026. I have not received medical confirmation of carbon-monoxide poisoning. The exhaust leak was repaired in August 2026, but on August 17, 2026, the leak appeared again in the same location. The condition has therefore been reproduced and confirmed through service inspections and has recurred after repair. The vehicle and its repair records are available for inspection upon request. Previous symptoms included a check-engine light, misfire, knocking, sluggish acceleration, and exhaust-related concerns. The vehicle has also experienced several extended periods out of service for repairs.
The vehicle experiences a dangerous 2-3 second 'dead pedal' delay during acceleration on hot restarts. When flooring the pedal to the floorboards, the vehicle fails to respond; it moves slowly. This was reported to Denville NJ Dealership on 8/27/26: dealer stated they test drove it could not replicate, and there were no stored codes. This was reported to Denville NJ Dealership and 4/2/26 and dealership reported they "believed" to be due to TCM communication error. This was reported by previous owner on 4/26/24 to Englewood, NJ Dealership and they could not duplicate.
My tracking number assigned by NHTSA for this issue is XXX. I am adding additional pdf.s to this original safety On page 4 of 8, the attachment MIP from Genesis on HHI does not provide a reason for this concern: High Pressure Fuel Pump With Seal Cam Lobe Bucket HPFP Bolts Fuel Rail Pipe Intake Manifold Gasket Throttle Body Gasket Item Description: Speak with your service advisor for more information on this recommended service. Reason: Left blank Service Advisors' texts attached: 1, 2, and 3 from [XXX] of Genesis/[XXX] of HHI: The dealership’s verbal assessment was that the fuel pump area bolts sheared off due to "outside work" or "over-tightening, I asked for photos to provide visual, metallurgical proof of tool marks or cross-threading to back up that claim, and [XXX] verbally stated they had submitted those to Genesis. I never received the photos. The last attachment (Diagnostic Check). **RESPONSE to dealerships' speculation: ** Under Federal Recall 033G (NHTSA Campaign 26V229000), which directly involves the failure of fuel system retention fasteners, the Insufficient torque on the stabilizer bolts is prone to a bolt backing out even a fraction of an inch; the fuel assembly begins to vibrate violently against it. This creates immense lateral (sideways) fatigue stress on the bolt threads. Eventually, under that continuous vibration and stress, the metal fatigues and shears (snaps) completely off. Subject: Vehicle Safety Incident Report – Fuel Pump Disconnection and Oil Leak To: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Date: July 27, 2026 I am submitting this report to detail a recent vehicle malfunction that posed significant risks to my safety and that of others on the road. While driving to work, I experienced a situation where my vehicle was unable to shift gears properly or accelerate as expected. This loss of acceleration and responsiveness created substantial control problems, making it difficult to maneuver safely in traffic. Notably, no dashboard warning lights were illuminated at the time, which gave me the false impression that the vehicle was operating correctly. Initially, I perceived a dragging sensation in the car, which I believed was manageable. However, the situation quickly escalated when I observed smoke coming from the vehicle. The presence of smoke not only impaired my visibility but also posed a serious risk of fire or engine failure. The danger was heightened as I attempted to drive uphill; the car struggled even more, increasing the potential for an accident or collision due to impaired maneuverability. Following this incident, I had my vehicle towed to an auto repair shop for a diagnostic check. The diagnostic report revealed that the fuel pump was not attached to anything and that oil was leaking into the pan. These findings confirm that the issues were real and not just perceived. The disconnected fuel pump and oil leak represent systemic failures, which could have had catastrophic consequences if not addressed promptly. In conclusion, this experience highlighted grave risks to both personal and public safety. I urge vehicle manufacturers and regulatory bodies to prioritize detecting and preventing such malfunctions.
Hello [XXX], I was wondering are you handling the case against Hyundai/Genesis. I own a 2022 GV70 43K on it, took it to the dealer on 7/24/26 photos on file at the dealer in Dublin, Ca. Got home in the evening, and parked my car in my garage, then left the next evening 7/25/26 to a wedding got home late, 7/26/26 drove my card to get a bite to eat and seen this, (see photos) I reviewed on line and this a known issue with Hyundai/Genesis a well documented factory defect. That the paint just lifts off due to no being cured properly. That it prematurely oxidizes and weakens and peels off, mine is not oxidized but it just has peeled straight off the hood. This is like toyota white tacoma Trucks issues, with paint. Are you handling this and where do I get in on the claim or start one? for a 60K vehicle this is unacceptable. I also have a video. My# is [XXX] if you need to reach out. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The vehicle has experienced a pattern of recurring electrical failures beginning shortly after purchase, involving driver door controls (window, lock, mirror, and interior lighting functions), which have required four separate repair attempts over approximately three years, including replacement of a door module, a wiring harness, and a door switch assembly. Despite these repairs, the same driver door electrical failure has recurred multiple times. The vehicle has also experienced a seat memory module failure (module was replaced), and a persistent rear hatch malfunction that has never been resolved. The most serious concern is that the vehicle has, on multiple occasions, unexpectedly shut down while being driven, including instrument cluster and infotainment screens going dark, occurring when the automatic engine stop/start feature engages at intersections. The vehicle has restarted on its own after acceleration in some instances. Power steering assist has also been affected during at least one of these events. Most recently, the vehicle failed to start at all on one occasion, requiring roadside assistance to jump the battery; the dealer diagnosed unstable battery voltage but did not identify a root cause connecting this event to the prior shutdown incidents. This creates a significant safety risk due to potential loss of vehicle control or loss of power while operating in traffic. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by the dealer on multiple occasions (door module and wiring harness failures were diagnosed and repaired), though the shutdown-while-driving events specifically have not been duplicated by the dealer despite multi-day testing. The vehicle has been inspected exclusively by the authorized dealer; it has not been inspected by police or independent parties. Warning symptoms (flickering door lights, dead door controls) preceded the shutdown/stall issue by roughly a year before the stalling symptom began.
I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the service I received, and the dealership’s failure to address what I believe is a serious safety issue following recall repairs performed on my vehicle. On XXX, I brought my vehicle for a routine oil change and to complete three mandatory recall campaigns, including an ECM software update related to a misfire recall. Prior to this service, my vehicle had never exhibited any misfiring, transmission, or drivability issues. However, on Sunday, XXX, and again on Monday, XXX my vehicle began experiencing dangerous driving symptoms that started only after the recall work was completed. Specifically: The engine RPMs surge while accelerating, but the vehicle does not increase speed accordingly. The vehicle jerks when braking. The vehicle hesitates and feels unsafe while driving at highway speeds. These issues did not exist before Genesis performed the recall repairs. On XXX, I contacted my service advisor, to report these safety concerns. He assured me that a manager would contact me ASAP and determine the next steps. No one ever called me back. I called again that same day. During that conversation, Rick suggested that my worn brake pads and rotors were the reason my vehicle was “misfiring.” This explanation makes does not explain why my engine RPMs are flaring and the vehicle is failing to accelerate properly immediately after an ECM recall update. Once again, I was told someone would follow up, and again, no one did. On XXX, at approximately 9:00 AM, I called Genesis of Danvers again and spoke with Rick who told that if I dropped the vehicle off today, nothing could be done with it today, and that a manager would call me back. Got vehicle towed XXX. As of today XXX I still have no update on my vehicle. No phone card no email no loaner. I am becoming increasingly concerned by the lack of communication surrounding a vehicle that was towed because of a significant safety concern. The contact owns a 2022 Genesis GV70. The contact received notification of NTHSA Campaign Number: 26V229000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
My vehicle is at the Genesis dealership with what they even consider a common problem. Road debris putting a hole in the unprotected Turbo Intercooler Radiator. This is a safety issue because the loss of power in the vehicle once you lose your turbo. The radiator is very unprotected down at the bottom of the front of the vehicle and Genesis needs to do something about this. This is going to cost me $1500 to fix there not covered by Genesis even though it's a serious design flaw. I know I'm not the first person to report this, as I've seen forum posts about it and the issue is quite common. If it's so common, and it's so vulnerable, there most definitely is a design flaw in the vehicle.
The air conditioning system in my 2022 Genesis GV70 appears to have a recurring evaporator core failure that results in loss of cold air and unsafe driving conditions. The first failure occurred in March 2026 at approximately 60,541 miles. Prior to failure, the vehicle produced a whirring noise and inconsistent temperatures from different vents, eventually stopping the production of cold air entirely. The vehicle was taken to a dealership/service center, where no visible leak was found after a dye test was conducted. The refrigerant was evacuated and recharged, temporarily restoring operation. During that visit, a service representative stated the issue could be related to the evaporator core. The same issue returned only a few months later at approximately 61,500 miles, requiring the vehicle to be brought back to the dealership for service in May 2026. At drop-off, dealership staff again indicated the evaporator core was likely the cause. This defect creates a significant safety concern in hot and humid weather conditions because the air conditioning system is unable to properly dehumidify the cabin and defog the windshield. My visibility while driving was impaired because the windshield fogged during rainy and humid conditions. Opening the windows to reduce fogging was not a practical solution due to heavy rain. No warning lights or messages appeared prior to either failure. Based on my own research, other 2022 Genesis GV70 owners appear to be reporting similar recurring air conditioning and evaporator core failures involving repeated refrigerant loss and temporary recharge repairs that do not permanently resolve the issue.
The service brake system has a recurring uneven/abnormal braking issue. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The concern has been reported to a Genesis dealer multiple times. After prior complaints of uneven braking, the dealer resurfaced/cut the rotors several times, but the problem kept returning. New brakes and rotors were installed in November 2025, but the uneven braking concern has continued. The safety concern is that the vehicle may not brake evenly or predictably, which could affect stopping stability and control. The dealer now states they cannot reproduce the concern, but at the same time is recommending another brake/rotor replacement due to uneven wear. This seems inconsistent because the brakes and rotors were recently replaced, and repeated uneven wear may indicate an unresolved issue with the braking system, calipers, rotors, ABS/stability system, suspension, or related components. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer/manufacturer representative. The dealer also stated the lower control arms are fine, but the root cause of the recurring uneven braking has not been clearly identified. No crash or injury has occurred to date. Warning lights or messages are UNKNOWN. I am concerned that the actual defect has not been properly diagnosed and that simply replacing brakes/rotors again may not address the underlying safety issue.
Due to icy roads, the Genesis slid into a curb at a slow rate of speed. The vehicle did not go up on to the curb and the speed was very slow. There were scratches on the wheel, but no other body damage or contact. Four airbags violently deployed in a spectacular overreaction which could have caused injury. I am concerned for public safety. The auto manufacturer refuses to respond to me.
