Issue: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.
Risk: Any of the above failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed an Interim letter to customers on July 14, 2014. The recall began on August 18, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac), 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn). GM's number for this recall is 13036.

Issue: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured April 1, 2006, to June 30, 2006, and 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.
Risk: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly, free of charge. The recall began February 24, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14772. Note: This is an expansion of recall 14V-153 to cover additional vehicles built between April 1, 2006 and June 30, 2006.

Issue: General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on April 29, 2014, that they are recalling 56,214 model year 2007 and 2008 Saturn Aura vehicles. On May 22, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 1,074,899 model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured from May 16, 2003, through October 5, 2007, model year 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured from June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, and model year 2005-2008 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured from May 26, 2004, through September 28, 2007, and equipped with 4-speed transmissions. The total number vehicles being recalled is now 1,131,113.
Risk: If the transmission shift cable fractures while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, despite selecting the PARK position, the transmission may not be in PARK. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
Remedy: GM will notify owners, and GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14152.

Issue: Dorman Products, Inc. (Dorman) is recalling certain replacement intermediate steering shafts sold under the Dorman, OE Solutions, and Solutions brand names, part numbers 425-167, 2425167, and 7-3074, for installation on 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6, and 2007-2009 Saturn Aura vehicles. The affected steering shafts may have a yoke that inadequately supports the u-joint bearing resulting in a premature failure.
Risk: A joint bearing that fails prematurely may cause separation of the u-joint resulting in a complete loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dorman will notify owners, and dealers will refund the purchase price or replace the steering shafts, free of charge. The recall began in September 2014. Owners may contact Dorman customer service at 1-800-523-2492.

Issue: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 208, 'OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION.' THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SEATS IN THESE VEHICLES ARE BUILT WITH A PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSING SYSTEM. WHEN TESTED WITH A REPRESENTATIVE, UNRESTRAINED SIX YEAR OLD CHILD, THE SYSTEM IS REQUIRED TO TURN OFF THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER'S AIRBAG. INTERFERENCE DURING SYSTEM CALIBRATION CAUSED THE SEATS TO BE OUT OF SPECIFICATION.
Risk: THIS CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO A CHILD SEAT OCCUPANT DURING CERTAIN CRASH CONDITIONS.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL WILL BEGIN ON APRIL 17, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT PONTIAC AT 1-800-620-7668.

The contact owns a 2007 Pontiac G6. The contact stated that while driving 25 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle failed to start and the vehicle was smoking. There was an abnormal burning odor after the failure. The power steering and brakes became inoperable. The steering wheel was difficult to turn. The failure persisted over time. The check engine warning light and ABS warning light were illuminated. The vehicle was towed. The Fire Department was on the scene. The Police advised the contact to go through civil court. The contact believed that the wiring and transmissions were the cause of the failure. The power steering rack was replaced by an independent mechanic. The service center was no longer communicating with the contact and requested that the vehicle be removed from the property. The failure mileage was approximately 137,000.

The contact stated that the headrest pad had detached, and the foam in the car seat head rest was exposed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The car seat was not replaced.
My 2007 Pontiac G6 GT 3.9 l convertible has the same issue that a lot of the other g6s had with the Passenger Airbag Sensor (NHTSA 07V-146).
When driving the vehicle on the highway the vehicles steering wheel started shaking lightly and then all of a sudden the steering got hard and locked up the power steering and it also put a message on the stereo display saying “power steering”. I was able to pull aside of the highway and turn the car off and then back on. That seemed to reset it but the steering wheel kept shaking on its own. I drove it to the nearest car mechanic and explained the problem. I was told it’s very common on the Pontiac G6 and that there is a recall for this issue. Now unfortunately when we look up the car by VIN it says it doesn’t have a recall but the mechanic and myself have done research and there’s a notice about the Pontiac G6 have this exact same issue about the power steering. The problem is very concerning and is also very consistent as it does not go away unless a specific part is replaced which has been inspected and confirmed to be the exact part that is listed on the recall notice. The contact stated that the steering wheel became difficult to turn, and the vehicle was nearly involved in a T-bone crash. The contact forcefully turned the steering wheel to regain control of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, it was neither diagnosed nor repaired. POWER STEERING FAILURE. BY LOSING POWER STEERING IT PUTS ME AND OTHERS AT RISK BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS VERY HARD TO STEER. WARNING LAMP STARTED COMING ON AND GOING OFF WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. IT HAS SINCE STOPPED HAVING POWER STEERING AND THE LIGHT STAYS ON.
My power steering keep leaking making it hard to steer. Electric fuse keep blowing out,
I keep losing power steering control because of leaking. I contacted a dealership and was told that there wasn't any recall concerning , power steering, transmission, airbag and body control module. I contacted GM and was told that the recall has ended.
I'm having a really back growling sound & it keeps having lose of steering. 1 minute it's fine the next it won't steer. There has been several recalls on lose of steering with this year. It says all recalls has been done on it. But if that's the case why is these problems still happening
I bought my G6 in 2022. After about a year of having it, issues started happening. Everything was fine up until my passenger side airbag warning appeared on my radio screen and it won't go off. Could be a serious issue with the airbag. Maybe around the end of 2023 I started having problems with my power steering. I could drive down the road and all of a sudden my steering wheel would lock up. I could barely get myself to a spot to get off the road. I had to force the steering wheel to turn. I shut the car off for a minute or so just to see what would happen. After I turned the car back on the steering cleared, but as soon as I decided to go back home it locked back up. Now it's starting to lock back up this year. My major issue I have is the gas smell that's coming from the car. The smell is so strong, it's coming inside the car. When I went to get some tires put on car, the mechanic said he smelled the gas and there was a gas leak coming from the tank. The smell is so strong it can cause someone to pass out. It also causes the car to stall when trying to start it. I don't think this is safe. I have to drive my grand kids in my car. There needs to be a recall on this gas leak issue. Someone can get killed or badly injured if not taken seriously. I didn't have any warning signals appear at all about the gas/fuel issue.
